Phosphate is shorthand for naturally occurring phosphorus. The symbol for phosphate is P2O5.
Phosphate is an essential component of fertiliser which facilitates root development, water use efficiency, early plant maturity and higher crop yields.
Phosphate is predominantly used in agriculture, approximately 90 percent of mined phosphate is used for crop applications in support of plant growth. Its primary function is to support strong cell development and water retention.
There is no substitute for phosphate in agriculture.
